Volkswagen Polo Facelift

                   Volkswagen Polo Facelift

Having just launched the Polo GT TDI in India, you would expect the people at Volkswagen India to be taking a bit of a break. On the contrary, the plans for a facelift of the car are already being worked upon. The Volkswagen Polo facelift was spotted testing at Death Valley, California, USA. Design elements from this test mule will filter onto the new Polo which will be launched in India in 2014, the best news though will be that the facelift will not just be a cosmetic job, there will be a new engine on offer too!

http://wallpaperpassion.com/upload1/41486/volkswagen-polo-2014-wallpaper.jpg

FRONT: Changes are limited to the new headlights with twin-lighting elements (which are similar to the units found on the last-gen Polo sold in Europe) and silver insert , new fog lamps, new front bumper which is more sculptured than before and gets a new silver element that mimics the one in the headlight unit, a new grille.

Rear: Changes are limited to the new bumper with a more pronounced area around the number plate holder and new reflectors. The test mule seems to be the GT TSI variant.

 http://www.carblogindia.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Volkswagen-Polo-Sedan-with-Automatic-transmission.jpg

What are the differences?

1) The international model will get optional LED daytime running lamps, which Volkswagen India may or may not offer (the latter seems more probable).
2) The lower profile tyres found on the international model may not make it here. It will be offered with 15, 16 and 17-inch alloys based on the variant abroad, while in India we may have to be content with the 15-inch wheels. This is not exactly a bad thing as the ride will be more comfy on the standard tyres, but those who want a bit more of style will have to go for aftermarket wheels.
3) The international model gets a slight facelift on the inside too, which the test mule spied in India does not have. we may not get updates like a different shifter, redesigned three-spoke steering, new instrument cluster etc.
4) At the rear, the international model gets LED tail-lamp elements which have not been offered in India

A new front bumper, headlights and tail-lamps as well as new features inside are expected as the cosmetic changes which the Volkswagen Polo facelift will receive. The most important change though, will be that the Polo facelift will be offered with a 1.5-litre TDI motor in the May of 2014 as per the latest reports. This engine will come in two different states of tune; 89 BHP and 104 BHP. After the arrival of this motor, VW might just phase out the current diesel engines on offer.
The current diesel engine powering the Volkswagen Polo is a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, in line engine which produces a maximum power of 74 BHP @ 4200 rpm and a maximum torque of 180Nm @ 2,000 rpm. There is also a 1.6-litre TDI motor on offer (that powers the Polo GT TDI) that develops a maximum power of 105 BHP and a peak torque of  250Nm which is more than sufficient to satisfy your hunger for performance. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Volkswagen’s Polo series has done very well in India so far and we can hope that the new launch will boost the sales even further. The car is expected to arrive in the market in the first quarter of 2014.

2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe

              2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe

http://gearheads.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Mercedes-Benz-S-Class-Coupe.jpg

Mercedes Benz has a thing for combining luxury and performance. It has just launched the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe at the Geneva Motor Show which combines the luxury of S-Class with the styling of a coupe.
The S-Class Coupe has been speculated for a long time, the first steps were taken when the Mercedes Style Concept was showcased at the 2012 Auto China show where a large coupe featuring the now familiar Mercedes-Benz facia was showcased. In 2013, Mercedes-Benz showcased the S-Class Coupe Concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show, this time the car looked more production ready save for some fancy parts like the interiors and the ORVMs. And finally, the S-Class Coupe has been presented in flesh, featuring most of the styling featured on the 2013 concept.

The car features a drop dead gorgeous two door design that is elegant yet aggressive. The most striking feature is the headlamp cluster which features 47 Swarovski crystals and 17 out of these are angular crystals which can turn into daytime running lamps. The remaining 30 crystals will have an alter ego as turn indicators. The coupe has a length of 5,027mm, a width of 1,899mm and the height stands at 1,899mm. You sit lower in the car compared to the S-Class. The coupe will go on sale in US later this year in November. Expect it to reach India as well but via the CBU route for a price around Rs 2 crore -Rs. 2.5 crore.
As you step inside the coupe, you’ll notice that the coupe gets a Magic Sky panoramic sunroof that first made headlines on the current-gen S-Class and the interiors of the car resemble that of its sedan sibling. Under the hood of the S-Class coupe will be a twin-turbo 4.7-litre V8 motor which has 449 BHP on tap coupled with a mammoth torque of 700 NM. Only the S500 version of the car has been announced as of now and an AMG version with a V8/V12 motor will join the ranks soon in all likelihood.

2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe Interior Front Cabin Passenger Side View
The S-Class gets a sporty 3-spoke steering wheel with diamond quilted seats for added comfort and luxury. The same will be available in a slew of colours such as Porcelain White and Bengal White. It gets a “touchpad” controller which has been lifted from the C-Class and will provide a slew of infotainment functions. It gets the head-up display unit as well from the saloon sibling. It gets Magic Body control suspension system for maintaining stability. It gets an ‘Active Curve Tilting Function’ functionality which takes note of the road that lies ahead and bends the individual struts accordingly to help you ride better through corners.
The S Class coupe will be a rich boy’s toy and we don’t have a problem calling it that. Exclusivity and turning of heads surely comes at a price.

2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe

The 2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe had been showcased earlier this year at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo and the performance sedan is all set to be launched in India on the 3rd of April. The M6 Gran Coupe is the performance edition of the 6-series Gran Coupe that is already on sale in India. It gets a slight visual upgrade as compared to the regular Gran Coupe but things get pretty interesting under the hood. The M6 Gran Coupe is the perfect combination of luxury and performance.
The 2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe will reach us courtesy of the CBU route because it is a niche car and its volumes are expected to be on the lower side. Expect it to be priced around the Rs 1.5 crore mark and will go head on with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG and Audi RS7 as its chief competitors.

It gets M performance kit so as to differentiate it from its sibling. It gets revised bumpers, larger air intakes, a car fibre roof, flared wheel arches and it rides on 19-inch alloys. It gets M quad-tipped exhausts which add to the aesthetic appeal of the performance hungry luxury car. As soon as you step inside the car, you’ll notice that the performance sedan’s interiors are a combination of carbon-fibre, leather and gadgetry.http://images.conceptcarz.com/imgxra/BMW/2014-BMW_M6-Grand-Coupe-Image-i01-1024.jpg

Propelling the M6 Gran Coupe is a 4.4-litre V8 motor that is present under the hood of the BMW M5 sedan as well. You get 552 horses under the hood waiting to be unleashed and a peak torque of 678 NM. It gets mated to a 7-speed DCT transmission which is responsible for sending the power to the rear wheels of the car. It will do the 0-100 kmph sprint in merely 4.2 seconds before it hits an electronically limited 250 kmph.
Performance hungry luxury sedans as a segment is still in its nascent stages in the country and the Germans are doing pretty well to treat us to them.

Hyundai Grand i10 diesel

http://imagecdn2.cartrade.com/img/600/cars/Hyundai-Grand-i10-hatchback_copy_copy.jpg

The Hyundai Grand i10 has been a instant hit with Indian buyers soon after it was launched in India in September 2013. We have seen a lot of Grand i10s on road which is a proof that Hyundai is selling them in good number. Not many weeks have passed after the launch that Hyundai India also launched the Automatic transmission petrol variant of the same. The diesel automatic version is also rumored to arrive, but these is no official word on the same.
We spent a full day driving Hyundai Grand 1i0 Diesel withing the city as well as on the highway and in this article we share with you a detailed test drive and features video along with our experience of Hyundai Grand i10 diesel. The car we tested was the top end Grand i10 Asta (Option) CRDI with exclusive features like ABS, twin airbags and diamond cut alloy wheels.

Exteriors and Styling

The Hyundai Grand i10 gets the same fluidic design language which we see in all new Hyundai cars starting from the smallest hatch in its range the Eon, to the likes of the Elantra. There are sharp triangular shapes, body lines and and pronounced wheel arches and modern styling. The car looks smart and aerodynamic with the rounded roof line. There is a smart looking front  grille, side sweeping headlamps, large grille, nice looking fog lamps housing and an overall attractive front fascia.

The side profile is also sporty with large windows which give a feel of large interior space and make the cabin feel airy. There are side moldings on the door which protect from sideways scratches as well as double up as sporty aesthetic elements. The wheel-arches and diamond cut alloys with body hugging roof rails also add up to the sporty character.

The tail lamp combination cluster sweep to the sides like the headlamps and also add up to overall visual appeal. The outside rear view mirrors with integrated turn indicators add up to the premiumness of the Grand i10. These small touches make it look apart from the rest of the cars.

Interiors Space, Boot Space And Comfort

First thing that caught my attention on the inside is the quality. The quality of the plastics and upholstery used in the cabin is high quality and does make you feel comfortable. The noise insulation of the cabin is pretty commendable, Hyundai has been able to keep the clatter of the three-pot diesel motor out pretty effectively. The colour tone used is nice and finished in grey and beige. It is a good thing that Hyundai decided to go with darker shade of beige as the lighter ones used in the i10 get dirty too easily. The cabin feels spacious especially if you sit in the front, it’s surprising considering the fact that the car doesn’t look that big on the outside.

The driver seat offers height adjustment, which is first in the segment and helps improve driving posture. Also the steering wheel comes with tilt adjust. The steering mounted stereo as well as phone controls come in really handy as it adds lots of comfort and convenience. Instrument cluster is neat and easy to read. The central console is practical and simple with few bells and whistles. The air conditioning is only manual and there is no climate control option even on the top of the line variant. The AC vents at front are large and the air conditioning is very effective. One point worth mentioning is that there are AC vents at the back seat which is segment first.
The gear knob has an oddly placed reverse gear, but it does not cause much trouble as you can get used to it in no time. The seats are designed nicely in bucket fashion with integrated head restrains. The seats are comfortable and offer good posture.http://www.motortrend.in/carimages/images/hyundai_grand_i10_interior.jpg

Ride Comfort, Handling And Steering

I drive a Hyundai i10 for over 5 years and soft suspension and light steering really bug me on high speeds. Hyundai has fixed the same in the Grand i10 and it feels much more sorted in the suspension and handling department. The suspension has been toughened compared to an i10, but not too hard so as to cause discomfort.
The handling is precise and steering is heavier than the i10, which is again very confidence inspiring on the high speeds. I did not find any trouble driving the i1o Grand diesel on highway at speeds in excess of 100 KMPH. Another thing worth mentioning is that it is also very well insulated from outside noise. There is no tyre noise, wind noise of engine harshness even at speeds of 100 KMPH which is really commendable for a small car.
Almost no noticeable turbo lag and gear ratios are also fairly tall. I could not make much differentiation whether it was really so much different from a petrol car as the response was very linear. On the plus side, the in-gear acceleration was much better than any comparative petrol engine.

Engine, Performance and Mileage

The 1.1 Litre U2 CRDI engine model which we tested produces a peak power of about 70 BHP and peak torque of 160 Nm starting from 1500 to 2750 RPM. The claimed mileage is about 24 KMPL while in our full day test of mixed city and highway drive, we were about to get around 20 KMPL in the real world conditions with AC on.

Features And Equipment

Some of the key features include:
  • Multi Information Display with digital clock, dual tripmeter, average speed, engine running time etc.
  • Tachometer
  • 2 DIN audio system on Sportz and Asta with Aux and USB Input
  • Bluetooth connectivity and 1GB internal memory on Asta only

Exteriors

Starting with the front of the new 2014 Santa Fe fluidic SUV, you can notice the pronounced and signature fluidic language which we see on all new Hyundai cars including the Verna, Elantra, Xcent etc.
The headlamps have high intensify discharge or HID projector lamps with daytime running LED lamps. These HID lamps also come with washer. The cluster has been nicely designed and also contains the turn indicators. The front grille is loaded with chrome and looks premium. The fog lamp housing is sharp and brings interesting feature where the fog lamps steer the light when you steer the car. It ensures safe driving in the dark at corners. There is large airdam below the grille and a dual colour chin finish.

There is a black coloured body cladding which runs across the car at the bottom and gives it a really sporty look. The side profile gets pronounced wheel arches which are further highlighted by the black cladding around it. Moving a bit further on the side, you get outside mirrors (ORVMs) with turn indicators. The ORVMs are electrically adjustable as well as power foldable. There is use of chrome lining around the glass windows on the side and also two body- lines running around the side which gives it a dynamic look. From the side you can also notice side sweeping headlamps as well as tail lamps. The tail lamp cluster is also nicely designed, it’s a sleek combination cluster.

Moving to the rear, you see silver finished body cladding at the bottom with twin tip exhaust finished in chrome. The tail lamp cluster converges towards the centre as reaches the license plate area.  Also there are low mounted fog lamps at rear; these are not mere reflectors, but lamps. The windshield is curved as it moved up to merge with the spoiler provided at the rear which also houses a high mounted stop lamp for higher safety. The windshield has washer, wiper and defogger.

There are sleek body hugging roof rails on the top adding to the sporty aesthetic appeal of the car. There is a small micro antenna mounted towards the rear of the car on the roof.

Interiors and Features

On the interiors, let’s start from the front row of seats and then we will talk about the two rear rows. The front row seats are 12 way eclectically adjustable with height adjust, under thigh support adjust and lumbar support to name a few. Also they use perforated high quality leather for high comfort in hot weather. There are no ventilated seats which could have been a really welcome addition.
The seats are very comfortable bucket seats and offer fatigue free driving experience. The steering wheel comes with tilt adjust and helps get a further relaxed driving position as per driver’s need. It gets a smart looking digital + analogue instrument cluster with coloured driver information system between the two dials. There are controls on the steering wheel to change the information it shows the driver. It allows watching real time mileage, distance to empty and other vital information. There are two more digital dials which show which mode you are driving the car in. You also get phone controls, audio controls and cruise controls mounted on the steering wheel itself.

Specifications, engine and performance

The new 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV comes with a powerful 2.2 Litre CRDI diesel engine which produces impressive torque of around 420 Nm which gives it the much required punch. The engine seems to work well and the car feels very agile besides being fairly large.
On transmission, you get either a 6 speed manual or 6 speeds automatic which offers manual control for the enthusiast drivers who want manual control of the transmission. We drove only the AT version and found it to be very peppy and agile and there is no noticeable turbo lag.In terms of mileage, Hyundai claims around 13 KMPL for AT and 14 KMPL for the automatic. During our test the display showed us around 10L/100Km mileage which is approx. 10 KMPL. This was with AC on all the time and 3 occupants. We drove pretty aggressively, so if it delivers 10 KMPL in real world, it’s really good. There is an Eco Drive mode which mellows down the power delivery to some extent and changes gear shift pattern for better fuel economy just in case you like it that way.

Ride, handling and off-road performance

When it comes to ride and handling, I will start with one of the most impressive parts of the car, which is flexi-steer technology which Hyundai has introduced in 2014 new Santa Fe SUV. The flex steering allows you to change the steering feedback (weight of steering) in 3 preset modes- Comfort, Normal and Sport. You can choose the feel f the steering by the press of a button on steering wheel and I am sure enthusiastic drivers will appreciate this control. In city, you can keep comfort mode on and on high speed drives on highways, you can switch to Normal or Sport mode. Please note that these modes do not alter the suspension behaviour unlike some high end sports cars.

Coming to the handling part, it steers with confidence, the on-demand 4 wheel drive helps to gain good traction on road and save on fuel when it’s not needed. There is a switch provided for permanent 4 Wheel drive model which can be useful for off-roading.
We tried the car on smooth tarmac, bad and rough roads and also some off-road situations like on small rocks and steep inclines with gravel, it did hold pretty well. Also there is hill hold function both for upwards and downwards slopes which prevents the car from rolling up or down when you are launching on a slope or going steep downhill.

AUDI R8

Like superheroes, supercars don’t have a typical life cycle. The Audi R8 might be showing a hint of gray around the edges—but it’s still a looker. Launched initially with a 4.2-liter V-8, a V-10 was added, then a spyder, and, finally, the lightweight, limited-production, and loud R8 GT. Audi has toyed with the idea of an R8 V-12 TDI, and several prototypes of a fully electric R8 e-tron were built.
Now the mid-engined supercar has been face-lifted for the first time, and a new top model—the R8 Plus—is scheduled to come to the U.S. in the first quarter of 2014. The lineup now consists of the 4.2 FSI with a 430-hp V-8, the 5.2 FSI powered by a 525-hp V-10, and the R8 5.2 FSI Plus sporting a 550-hp V-10. Compared with the regular V-10, the Plus version gets extra power and torque—it makes 398 lb-ft instead of 391—thanks to modified engine management. No hardware is changed. The additional power helps to make the R8 a bit quicker.
More important than the power boost, however, is the weight saving in the Plus model. Compared with the regular V-10, almost 35 pounds of sound insulation are expunged. Racing-style seats mean 45 fewer pounds, ceramic brakes—optional in the lesser versions—shed another 25 pounds, and switching from magnetic ride to conventional suspension damping tosses about 15 additional pounds. What’s more, the R8 Plus is loud; the combination of intake and exhaust sound will send shivers of joy down your spine. Aurally, this is pure Lamborghini territory, which isn’t much of a surprise, since the R8 shares not only its structural components but also its V-10 engine with the Gallardo. With the manual box, 0 to 60 mph takes an estimated 3.5 seconds, and top speed is an ungoverned 198 mph. Audi means business with the R8 Plus, and the fact that you can’t presently get its goods fitted to the 200-pound-heavier R8 Spyder proves it.

We are thrilled to report that you can still get the R8—and this includes every engine and body variation—with a six-speed manual transmission operated via a gated shifter. Internally called the ML600, the box is a marvel of precision and aesthetics. Customers here in the U.S. should congratulate themselves; we and the U.K. have the highest manual take rates.
More big news comes in the form of a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, internally called the DL800. This box—marketing calls it the S tronic—weighs about 45 more pounds than the manual transmission but provides lightning-quick shifts. It blips the throttle artfully, rarely finds itself out of step, and is objectively fast. In the R8 Plus, it trims the quoted 0-to-60-mph time from 3.6 to 3.3 seconds. Top speed is lower by a fairly insignificant 1 mph.

The DL800 entirely replaces the previously offered SL600 (R tronic in Audi-speak), a six-speed automated manual that weighed a mere 10 more pounds than the ML600 but was known for its jerky shifts. Interestingly, Lamborghini keeps the SL600 in its face-lifted Gallardo.

Suzuki Celerio

 Suzuki Celerio

Beginning April-June this year, Maruti will stop exporting cars to Europe reports Financial Express. The last European consignment of about 15,000 units of the A-Star (sold in Europe as the Suzuki Alto) will leave India in the next quarter, following which Maruti will halt European exports at least until September 2015

The current A-Star which is sold in Europe as the Alto has received a successor in the Celerio. The Celerio was world debuted at the 2014 Auto Expo, while the European premiere took place at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. When the Celerio goes on sale in Europe later this year, the hatchback will be shipped from Suzuki’s Thailand plant.
At Suzuki’s Thailand plant, the Celerio will be made to comply with Euro 5 emission norms and will conform with current European legislations. The Celerio made in India however, is made in Euro 4 spec (BS4) and as a result, cannot be sold in Europe.
While both versions share the same 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, there are certain modifications made for Europe. The European Celerio’s engine is named ‘K10C’ and features a stop-start system, while the Indian Celerio’s engine is named ‘K10B’ and is devoid of this feature

While this move will lead to a dip of 10 percent in Maruti’s exports, sources say the company may increase exports to markets in Africa, Southeast Asia and South America. Recently at the Algiers Motor Show, Suzuki announced the launch of the Ertiga MPV and it’s likely for Maruti to export the Ertiga to this African destination.
